Customer case: Dynacorp Engineering powers Mahindra's efficiency

On November 11-12 Orion visited Dynacorp Engineering - their Indian distributor and a leader in manufacturing industry installations. Dynacorp successfully implemented a solution that integrated OriLink Fluid Monitoring System with PLC systems to meet the requirements of one of India’s largest carmakers Mahindra

Dynacorp Engineering faced several challenges when designing the solution:

• Convincing the customer to transition to MPDM-based systems.

Mahindra was hesitant to adopt the Multi-Product Dispense Module (MPDM) and viewed it as a “black box.” They preferred the transparency and familiarity of PLC-based systems.

• Data capture through PLC instead of OriLink

Mahindra requested that data be managed directly through their existing PLC systems rather than using OriLink.

• Limited use of computers on the shop floor.

Computers are rarely used in Indian production environments due to a lack of expertise among support from IT department to maintenance staff. IT departments are also not typically involved in production activities.
This made it challenging to implement computer-based systems.
• • •

Dynacorp Engineering -with support from Orion provided practical and innovative solutions to address these challenges:

Building trust through analogies

Dynacorp compared their technology to NC nut runners which are widely trusted on production lines despite being “black boxes.” This analogy helped Mahindra understand that Dynacorp like nut runner manufacturers, are experts in their field. The dispensing application core program being built through 100 plus years of expertise of Alentec & Orion was more reliable and accurate. This convinced Mahindra to adopt the MPDM.

• Developing a custom integration for PLC systems

Dynacorp integrated OriLink with Mahindra’s PLC systems and developed custom PLC/HMI software for data management. This approach eliminated the need for computers made the system user-friendly for maintenance staff, and aligned with Mahindra’s existing workflows.
• • •

Dynacorp and Orion’s collaboration led to several positive outcomes:

• Increased orders

The success of the first installation convinced Mahindra of Dynacorp’s capabilities. They placed additional orders and today more than 20 systems are operating across Mahindra’s facilities.

• Improved efficiency

The integration of OriLink with PLC improved production processes, reduced downtime and simplified maintenance workflows.

Long-term partnership

Dynacorp Engineering’s ability to deliver a reliable and tailored solution has strengthened their partnership with Mahindra. This has established them as a trusted leader in dispensing solutions.

By addressing Mahindra’s challenges with customer-focused solutions Dynacorp Engineering demonstrated their expertise in dispensing technology. Their ability to integrate OriLink with PLC systems while meeting local constraints has made them a trusted partner for Mahindra and a leading provider of manufacturing solutions in India.
